Show world peep show1/6/2024 Mark's contempt for the gatecrashers is always great, too. Some great moments in this one, the puke points, rental snake, Jez being blindsided by Gail's proposal. As usual it's great to see a lot of different characters come together in the flat. It's still reasonably funny, though.įavourite Quote: "I feel guilty about everything, from the pollution caused by Chinese industrialisation to not wearing some pairs of boxers as much as others." - MarkĪ classic ridiculously elaborate Mark scheme. Jez's cult subplot is a good bit of fun, though it is something I've seen satirised in many other places and so isn't exactly unique. I also enjoy the existential crisis of Jez turning 40, and though the kidnapping plot is a bit outrageous even for Jez, it does provide some good laughs.įavourite Scene: Mark returns to the flat to find that Jez and Hans have kidnapped Angus.įavourite Quote: "Norwich are never going to win the league, but they still turn up every week don't they? The pricks." - Super HansĪn interesting episode that brings full circle several things that have been hinted at and set up for years at this point: Sophie's obsession with having a baby by any means possible, Jez and Sophie's spark of attraction (hinted at both in Funeral and Conference), Sophie's deteriorating behaviour at work resulting in Mark being compelled to fire her, even Mark's condom that he mentions several series earlier. In the end, Mark and Jez ending up right where they'd started is quite fitting. It could have also had everything end in complete disaster, but that might have been a little much. However, that would be so not rainbow rhythms, and so not peep show, a series that owes its success partially to the unapologetic and raw depiction of real adult life. They could have gone with the whole hollywood happy ending: Mark ends up happily with April, and gets a job as a history tutor at Dartmouth University, Angus goes off amicably to forego romance and pursue his dream of writing a history of the Byzantine Church for the general reader, Jez is just about to give up on the music when an old demo made by him and Super Hans gets picked up by a record label and he goes on to have a brief stint as a moderately successful musician, before getting a job as a music teacher where his childlike antics help him bond with his students (disaffected urban youth like the burglar) etc. I think the finale does quite a good job of rounding off Peep Show, especially considering that endings to long-running shows are almost always controversial and by no means easy. He's just going to stand there doing nothing like Jeff's the invading Chinese army. It is hard to watch Mark being so horrible to Karen, though, in his inner monologue he seems to think he's too good for her, when she actually seems quite nice and definitely not so unattractive or unpleasant that Mark can shun her or think he's above her.įavourite Scene: Hans lies to Jez about Nancy sucking him offįavourite Quote: "Someone has got to do something. I always lose it when Super Hans "stags" Jez and tells him he had an affair with Nancy, only for it to become really awkward when Jez is absolutely devastated. I do feel like she's missed once she's gone, and it's sad that this is her last appearance in the show. I enjoy this one, and Toni's abrupt affair with Jez is among her funniest moments. Not to be confused with Mark and Sophie's wedding, this is Jez and Nancy's wedding episode. In the words of Jez, let's "go and see the second half" (but hopefully it won't be shit.) The episodes in this list are ordered from worst to best, but the bottom 50% of episodes are covered in the previous post, so even the first episode listed here is an above average episode in my eyes.
